Faux Pas is a full-length dance theatre work telling a story of a system of ‘perfection’ over uniqueness and collective care. The title refers both to a physical misstep and to the social meaning of a “faux pas” - an awkward mistake.

Set across a day-to-night arc, the work begins within a rigid world governed by order and control. The performers move in tightly structured unison, each fighting to gain power and control, striving toward an impossible ideal. As individual “faux pas’”, slips and failures accumulate, the system fractures. By nightfall, the performers begin to embrace awkwardness, queerness, and difference, revealing vulnerability and joy as strength.

Weaving classical, contemporary, hip hop, popping, freestyle and experimental theatre practice. Movement is generated through intention-based processes, building from embodied feeling into abstraction.

The work is accompanied by an original musical score created in collaboration with Julian Hovenden, and features upcycled costume design developed with Sook Studios and Spiraro.
